Bright Red Vita Mix Smoothie Recipe & Picture
We took the week off from The Healthy Diet Podcast last week because of the 4th, but we will do a show this week. In the mean time, I thought I’d share one of our Vita Mix smoothie recipes. I call it the Bright Red Vita Mix smoothie.
The secret to getting this smoothie bright red as you see in the picture, is fresh cherries, with the pits removed of course. This smoothie is sweet tasting and may be too sweet for some, but I thought it had a great taste.
Here’s how you make it:
Ingredients:
5 fresh cherries
2 medium chunks of pineapple
1 banana
4 to 5 strawberries
1 large pinch of coconut
3 to 4 ounces of orange juice, preferably fresh squeezed
12 or so ice cubes
Because the VitaMix is so powerful, you don’t really have to cut up anything, you can throw all of the ingredients in whole, put the ice on top and pour in the OJ. Turn on the Vita Mix 5000 on low variable and turn up the know to 10 as you watch the ingredients start to blend together, then switch to high speed for about 30 seconds.
Most anything we make in the Vita Mix we blend together with this process because of the power of the machine. If you turn it on full blast to start, you will probably splatter the ingredients all over the lid. Also, going from slow to fast helps cut up the ingredient so they blend better at high speed.
