Genetically Modified Food Video

A couple of podcasts ago we talked about genetically modified food and how our food supply has been corrupted and recommended watching the video, The Future Of Food. So we’ve decoded to post the video here on the Healthy Diet Podcast. It is a long video, but it is well worth the 90 minutes it will take you to watch it.

It is incredible what the government has allowed Monsanto to do to our seeds, crops and food. The most corrupt thing and the biggest threat is terminator technology. This is where seeds are genetically modified with a bacteria to make them only good for one growing season. The resulting seeds from crops grown from modified seeds are sterile and cannot be sprouted. Plants grown from these seeds also may not contain essential photonutrients and phytochemicals, the very stuff of life. They don’t contain these nutrients because they are essentially dead.

We strongly encourage you to take the time to watch this important video and then decide if you want to keep eating the same old standard American diet.

Healthy Recipes – Hearty Tomato Vegetable Soup

We are going to start featuring healthy recipes on the Healthy Diet Podcast. First up is our Hearty Tomato Vegetable Soup, a tasty raw vegetable soup.

Show notes:

  • We’ve been talking about the negative side of food for the last few weeks so we’re going to talk about a solution this week, our raw tomato vegetable soup recipe.
  • The tomato soup takes about 30 minutes to make and is done in three phases. Only make enough to eat immediately because it doesn’t keep well.
  • Phase 1 – Plan ahead food prep for veggies and soak sun dried tomatoes and mejool dates.
  • Phase 2 – Food processor phase – chopping ingredients. Our food processor stinks, please help us find a new food processor by leaving your comments below.
  • Click to see ingredients for the soup base.
  • How to pronounce Herbamare, an all natural, organic food seasoning. I have trouble pronouncing some things like Save-A-Ton.
  • Raw food dishes don’t have to be made by precise recipes, just work with what you have.
  • Phase 3 – Stir in other sliced veggies and you are ready to serve. You can heat this soup to around 95 degrees. Use the lowest setting on your stove. Be careful not to heat too high, above 118 degrees, or you will lose the benefits of the soup being raw.
  • Phase 4 – Eat! It goes great with our sprouted grain bread.

Let us know if you liked this recipe.

ABC’s Extreme Makeover, Papa John’s Pizza & Childhood Obesity

Jean and I love to watch ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition on Sunday night because it is such an uplifting show…usually. On this Sunday’s show the Extreme Makeover design team built an Extreme home for Linda and William Riggins of Raleigh North Carolina, and Papa John’s Pizza added their contribution to childhood obesity.

Ty Pennington and the rest of the team did a bang up job of providing a home for a well deserving family and one that has already given much back to their community. A Makeover was also given to the Building Together Ministries community center that Linda Riggins has served at and help build.

What came next however, was stunning. Papa John’s Pizza got in on the act of charity by what we thought was going to be feeding the kids and volunteers at the community center a meal of pizza and artery clogging bread sticks. But it gets worse, way worse. CEO John Schanatter showed up, joined in on the fun and ended up donating a one year’s supply of pizza to the Building Together Ministries community center, a total value of $10,000. I’m sure cardiac surgeons in the Raleigh, NC area are already hiring staff to handle the influx of new patients in the coming years from this wonderful act of charity.

While one would hardly think twice at the 40 to 50 or so kids and staff enjoying a pizza fest for the afternoon, let’s think about these kids eating a fat laden lunch of cheesy pizza every day for the next year. To help you think, I added up the total fat and sodium content for $10,000 worth of 14″ Garden Fresh pizzas, just in case they were going to stay on the healthy side of this deal. Based on each pizza being $10 and having 8 slices, the kids and staff at the community center will be enjoying 72,000 grams of fat, 20,000 of those being saturated, and 5,440,000 mg or 12 pounds of sodium over the next year.

The contribution ABC, HomeLife Communities and volunteers in the Raleigh have given to the Riggins family in building them a wonderful home and fixing up their community center is a gift that will keep giving for years to come. Unfortunately the gift Papa John’s Pizza has given to childhood obesity will keep giving for years to come as well.

Genetically Modified Food & Food Corruption

Today’s Healthy Diet Podcast is about genetically modified food and the systematic corruption of our food supply.

Show notes:

  • If you want to know about how our food supply is corrupted watch this video, The Future Of Food or buy it at www.TheFutureofFood.com
  • Dr C Everett Koop, “15 out of 21 deaths in the United States are related to nutrition” and part of the reason is because of the corruption of our food supply.
  • Advancements in agriculture were brought on by the Green Revolution and nitrogen based fertilizers.
  • Seed corruption by Monsanto. Genetically modified seeds and the terminator gene technology. Second generation seeds are no longer viable.
  • Because of food corruption we have less biodiversity in agriculture. In the 19th century we had 7,000 varieties of apples, not anymore. We have 97% less of the variety of vegetables than we had at the beginning of the 20th century.
  • GMO and genetically modified food and the Taco Bell scandal. Allergic reactions to genetically modified corn tortillas. No way to trace this food.
  • Genetically modified food is not required to be labeled. Experiments on rats and pigs tell us GMO food is not good for us. Once the modified food gets into the agriculture system we have no way to know what will happen.
  • Dr. Harvey W. Wiley – The Father of the 1906 Pure Food and Drugs Act. Sulphur dioxide in dried fruit.
  • The solution is, eat foods in their most natural form. Eat whole, plant based foods, preferably organic. Don’t buy GMO food.

Medication Madness & Your Health

On today’s Healthy Diet Podcast we talk about prescription drugs being the cure for all ailments, we call it Medication Madness!

Show notes:

  • The message from pharmaceutical companies is that no matter how healthy you eat, you need our drugs.
  • TV commercials encourage you to go to your doctor and ask them for a specific prescription drug.
  • More than 40% of the population is on some form of prescription medication yet, 1.5 million people are sickened, injured or killed by medication every year. More than 100,000 people die from adverse reactions to prescription medications every year.
  • Kids are told not to take drugs, but then they turn on the TV and see commercials for Viagra, cholesterol lowering medicines and others telling you to take drugs for everything that ails you.
  • Medication errors are very common. Even a common pain reliever, acetaminophen (Tylenol) is the leading cause of liver failure.
  • Our health care system is the third leading cause of death in the United States. How many people die every year from eating too much broccoli salad?
  • Drugs treat the symptoms of disease, not the disease itself. Ask your health care practitioner the right questions.
  • Many diseases can be treated through nutrition. Dr Joel Fuhrman shows incredible results for eating a whole food, plant based diet and what it can do for your diabetes.
  • Don’t get caught up in medication madness, get caught up in raw food diet.

Picture Of Our Healthy Raw Chili Recipe

Raw Easy Chili RecipeJean made our Healthy Raw Chili Recipe this morning as she was trying to rush out of the house. I did help a little. So, I thought I’d post a picture of it. We’re trying to get more pictures of our recipes online so you get to see what they look like.

One note on the “raw” chili. Everything in the chili is raw except the kidney beans. Jean sprouts the beans before she cooks them, but they must be cooked because uncooked spouted kidney beans are toxic. Jean cooks them in the crock pot overnight on the lowest setting until they are tender.

You can read more about the easy chili recipe here.

Enjoy it!

Developing Good Health Habits For A Healthy Diet & Lifestyle

On our first Healthy Diet Podcast of the New Year we cover what it takes to develop good health habits. That involves change, easy for some hard for others.

Show notes:

  • Change is difficult for some, but if you want to take charge of your health, change is necessary.
  • Three principles of positive change in your healthy diet and lifestyle.
  • First, all change begins with an awareness there is a problem or an impending problem.
  • Why do you desire change? What are the risks of changing your diet? What are the risks if you don’t change?
  • Some are addicted to food. It’s a slow form of suicide.
  • Second, gain knowledge about the problems and the solutions.
  • Our epiphany came through The China Study by T Colin Campbell. Some good resources are Mercola.com, Hacres.com, Alternative Medicine magazine, ezHealthyDiet.com .
  • Develop a personal philosophy about your health. What will you eat when a new fad diet comes along? What about cloned animals, will you eat them when they come to market? Decide now.
  • Write down key concepts about your personal health philosophy.
  • Thirdly, translate your new found knowledge into wisdom and action. Make health goals you can stick with and write them down and or get accountability.
  • Plan your meals and make grocery lists so you don’t buy stuff at the store that is unhealthy.

Misleading Trend In Prescription Drug Advertising

Should part of your healthy diet include pills?

Last night while watching TV, we saw the usual glut of prescription drug advertisements promising people how much better their lives would be if they would just take the advertised pill. One that caught our attention was an advertisement for one of the cholesterol lowering drugs that I can’t remember right at this instant. It looked like a fairly harmless commercial (for those that take prescription drugs), but Jean pointed out what I had missed.

The lady in the commercial was saying how she had done her part in eating a supposedly healthy diet, as she was preparing what looked to be healthy food. It looked like peas in some kind of a puffed pastry she was pulling from the oven. (I doubt anything in a puffed pastry is good for you.) The deception here, and what I missed, was that the advertisement was in effect telling you that a healthy diet just isn’t enough. In other words, no matter how good your diet is, it isn’t going to cut it, you need our drug to lower your cholesterol.

That is pure bunk! Dr T. Colin Campbell in his landmark book The China Study showed a conclusive link between diet and disease and also showed that rich countries, like the United States, suffer from what Campbell called diseases of affluence. These are diseases like heart disease, clogged arteries, hypertension, obesity and the like, all related to diet.

I know from personal experience that diet alone can reduce your cholesterol by a wide margin as I was able to lower mine from 245 to 150 simply by switching to a mostly raw food diet.

Don’t let these deceptive commercials fool you, in most cases, diet alone is enough to significantly lower your cholesterol.

Try eating a vegan, raw food based diet and see what it does to your cholesterol.
