Sugar Substitutes And Your Healthy Diet

We are inundated with foods containing various sugar substitutes and that’s what we talk about on this week’s Healthy Diet Podcast.

Show notes:

  • Obesity is on the rise, so the food industry concentrates on sugar substitutes instead of good nutrition.
  • A former President of the FDA was charged with a conflict of interest for owning stocks in the food industry.
  • Why is there such a focus on sweeteners to promote weight loss and better health instead of focusing on good nutrition? The American Diabetic Association promotes NutraSweet as a safe alternative to sugars…is that a little fishy?
  • The problems with artificial sweeteners – The main problem is that they just give people an excuse to eat poorly.
  • Remember aerosol cheese? That certainly wasn’t real food!
  • Aspartate the main ingredient in NutraSweet has been shown to kill brain cells.
  • Dr Janet Hull’s web site and the story of her life threatening hyperthyroidism
  • Healthy recipes to satisfy your sweet tooth in a healthy way.
  • You can use dates and raisins as a sweetener in many different recipes.

Next week: To be announced.

Real Food And A Healthy Diet

A healthy diet consists of eating real food. On this week’s show we talk about the definition of real food.

Show notes:

  • Cancer survivors, especially children, that have had chemotherapy suffer serious aliments later in life.
  • The definition of real food – Food found in nature. Get your food from the produce section of your grocery store.
  • Peanut butter – the only ingredient you need is peanuts, nothing else.
  • Confession time – Alan likes the taste of pasteurized orange juice better than fresh squeezed OJ. But, fresh orange juice is much better for you because it is alkaline instead of acidic.
  • Disease and cancer cannot live in an alkaline environment.
  • Packaged food is not real food. Lunchables you may be sending to school with your children is not real food.
  • Thanksgiving and Christmas means it’s time for the green bean casserole. You know, the one with the canned onion rings on the top.
  • Try marinated broccoli instead or cream of spinach soup instead.
  • Processed foods have their vitamins and minerals added back in, why is that? Processed foods will ruin your tastebuds. www.Diagnose-Me.com
  • We give the big definition of natural flavorings as stated by the government. Natural flavorings are excitotoxins and not nutritional in nature.

Next week: Artificial sweeteners and healthy sweeteners.

The Spinach Ecoli 0157:h7 Scare of 2006

After a one week absence, the Healthy Diet Podcast for this week is about the recent spinach food poisoning scare with ecoli 0157:h7.

Show notes:

  • Spinach was taken off the shelves of grocery stores across the country because of an ecoli outbreak. Conventional, organic, etc., it didn’t matter.
  • Article about spinach by Nina Planck – Ecoli is very common and only one strain 0157:h7 is very dangerous and is not killed by stomach acid as other ecoli is.
  • Ecoli never originates in produce, the source is secondary. It comes from cows fed on grain instead of their natural diet, grass.
  • When cattle are fed their natural diet, the incidence of 0157 is reduce by 1,000 times. Now there’s a solution! Hello cattle industry!
  • Spinach has received a bad rap in the past, canned spinach is mushy, (even though Alan likes it) fresh spinach is great!
  • Spinach recipes on our healthy diet web siteSpinach pesto, yummy!
  • Spinach is fragile, handle with care. Don’t cook it in aluminum cookware.

The Big Spinach Scare

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to do a podcast this week because Jean had to be out of town on Thursday and Friday. Thursday is our usual day for recording The Healthy Diet Podcast and we didn’t have the opportunity to do the podcast before Thursday.

Please check in next Thursday for the usual broadcast of our podcast when we will talk about the recent spinach e coli outbreak. As usual with the media, you haven’t heard the whole story.

Spinach has recently received a bad rap in the last few week because of a nationwide outbreak of e coli. While e coli is actually a lot more prevalent than you might expect, it is the e coli strain 0517:h7 that is the leading cause of food borne illness. And guess what, the primary source of this strain of e coli is in the stomachs of cattle, it never originates from fresh produce.

Tune in next week when we discuss more about what the real culprit is and what can be done about it.
